I’m reaching out today with some exciting updates about the direction of this publication that I have renamed The Gothic Descent and I want you to be among the first to know about the changes that are coming. If you’ve been following along, you’ve seen my passion for Gothic literature and Jungian psychology unfold, and now I’m taking it to the next level—and I want you to join me.
Why I Changed the Name: From Exploring the Gothic Psyche to The Gothic Descent
You may have noticed that this newsletter has a new name: The Gothic Descent. This shift is more than just a change in branding; it’s a reflection of a deeper evolution in both my work and my own personal journey.
When I started this newsletter, the goal was to explore the psychological depths of Gothic literature through Jungian analysis. While that’s still at the heart of what I do, I’ve realised that the word descent captures something even deeper about the journey we’re on together.
In Jungian psychology, the descent symbolises the process of diving into the unconscious, confronting the shadow, and uncovering parts of ourselves that we may have been avoiding. The Gothic genre, with its eerie landscapes and troubled characters, is the perfect vehicle for this journey. Through this descent, we face our darkest fears, explore our most intimate desires, and ultimately emerge transformed.
That’s what The Gothic Descent is all about: going beyond surface-level exploration and delving deep into the unconscious through the lens of Gothic art, literature, and Jungian psychology. And I’d love for you to come with me on this journey.
The Need for More Connection: Why I’m Inviting You to Be More Involved
I know that the space here has been quieter than I would have liked. Life has been a whirlwind, and while many of you have subscribed and enjoyed the content, I recognise that there hasn’t been as much interaction as I had hoped. I want to change that.
In order for The Gothic Descent to truly thrive, it needs to be more than just a one-way channel. It needs to be a place where we can all engage, ask questions, share ideas, and grow together. This isn’t just about me sharing my findings with you—it’s about building a community. And to do that, I need your help.
I want to hear from you. What do you think about the themes I explore? Are there certain aspects of the Gothic or Jungian psychology that you’re particularly interested in? Your input is invaluable, and it helps me shape the direction of the content to better meet your needs.
